JD Sports upgrades profit expectations as Christmas sales soar

JD Sports results for the six weeks over Christmas were up 20% and total sales grew 10% in the 22 weeks to Dec 31 double the 5% growth in H1.

Sainsbury’s delivers “best possible Christmas”

Sainsbury’s general merchandise sales were up 7.4% in the six weeks to 7 Jan and Argos sales climbed by 7.1% and now expects its profits to be at the upper end of its £630-690m guidance

White stuff sales rocket over Christmas

White Stuff total sales in the nine weeks to 31 Dec were up 16%, with in-store sales up 25% year on year and online sales up 8%.

Liberty on recovery trail

Liberty saw sales recover to near pre-pandemic levels with total revenue up at £82m in the year to Jan 31st 2022 - up from £59.6m in 2020 – and reduced its loss to £3.5m from 2020’s £12.3m loss.

Warpaint London beats its own expectations

Beauty specialist Warpaint London has had a “particularly strong” Q4 and sales for the full year are now expected to be around £64m, up from £50m, with pre-tax profit around £10m, up from £6.9m.

Crocs lifts full-year revenue guidance on strong brand growth

Crocs expects Q4 revenue growth of around 60%, compared to 2021 and expects record full-year 2022 revenues of around $3.55bn, which would represent around 53% growth compared to 2021.

Clothing sales rise 1.3% at Sainsbury’s Tu

Sales of Sainsbury's Tu clothing rose by 5.1% year-on-year in the 6 weeks to 7 January, with clothing sales up 0.4% in the 16 weeks to 7 Jan compared to the same period in pre-pandemic 2019/20.

Oliver Sweeney festive sales soar

Clothing retailer Oliver Sweeney results for the 12 weeks leading up to 26 Dec saw sales up 32% on the same period in 2021 and 69% higher than the equivalent period in 2020.

Oxfam sees sustainable fashion growth

The cost-of-living crisis and a change in attitudes to second-hand clothing saw Oxfam sales grow by more than 40% in the week before Christmas with womenswear the best-selling product category.

Boohoo to cut jobs at London office

Boohoo is to make redundancies in its London office, with 100 roles under threat. The roles in the ecommerce, buying and design departments will be brought under the Debenhams.com teams.

Amazon ‘Buy with Prime’ for third-party sites set for wide launch

Amazon is to expand its 'Buy with Prime' service in the US from invite-only to more widely available, the service allows brands to use Amazon’s payment and delivery services.

ScS completes acquisition of modular sofa-maker Snug

ScS has completed the acquisition of sofa in a box pioneer Snug in a pre-pack administration deal which preserved all 53 Snug employee’s jobs and its online site and Leeds pop-up store.

How to get your brand on the January Editorial Calendars   

January is all about fitness and health and getting back on track after a Christmas and New Year Holidays break, plus it’s about starting to prepare for outfits and gifts for Valentine’s Day next month. But also, we’re looking forward to next season so make sure anything SS23 is flagged on your drops. Plus, as we’re mid-winter there will still be searches for anything cosy, so pyjamas, slippers, coats, hygge, winter warmers, knitwear, scarves and everything warm.  

January Diary - Weeks/Months

January is also Veganuary and Dry January so it’s a good idea to make sure you have vegan-friendly products and non-alcoholic products labelled on your media centre, plus anything that’s healthy that fits in with resetting your life.  

If you sell gin and anything gin-related then it’s also Ginuary
