Patagonia founder gives company away to fight climate change

Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard has given away the company to a charitable trust in order to ensure its profits (around $100m a year) go towards tackling the climate crisis.

John Lewis unveils one-off cost-of-living payment as losses widen

John Lewis losses widened to £99m during the half year to July 30, 2022, compared to a £29m loss the same period a year ago.

H&M Q3 sales drop by 4%

Net sales at H&M for Q3 2022 increased by 3% to 57,450m SK (a decrease of 4% in local currencies) over 2021, with Q3 starting weak but finishing on a better start to the autumn than last year.

DFS profits plummet as supply chain issues and inflation take toll

DFS figures for the year to June 27 saw sales up 8.5% to over £1.1bn and up 20.1% on 2019 but saw a 43% drop in profit before tax to £58.5m, due to supply chain, inflation and staff shortages

Wickes profits slip but full-year guidance remains unchanged

Wickes results for the half year to July 2, 2022 saw revenues grow 1.3% to £822.3m over 2021 and adjusted profit before tax of £45.6m, down from £46.5m.

THG posts record revenue in first half

THG has said it made substantial progress in the six months to 30 June after it achieved record revenues of £1.1bn but saw an operating loss of £89m.

JYSK turnover sets new record

Danish furniture retailer JYSK sales grew 11% to DKK 36.2bn for the year despite challenging trading conditions and saw customer number increase by 7.7m with 135 new stores opening in Europe.

Lower-priced own-brand items make up 'half' of UK spending

UK consumer spending on retailers’ own-label lines was £393m higher in the past four weeks with own-brand items now making up 51% of the market.

How to make your products attractive to the media in September    

Summer is nearly over and it’s time to look to the autumn and to the winter. Mid-September marks just 100 days to Christmas so you should be adding your Christmas images for those monthly/weekly magazines with medium lead times.  Plus, look at adding some spring summer 23 images for those titles with long lead times as they will be starting to look at their Feb and March 2023 issues so you can help them out with previews of SS23. 

The media are going to be starting to create features around getting back to the office, what to wear for university or college, back to school. Now the nights are drawing in they’ll also be running features on winter wear so add coats/jumpers/boots plus they’ll be looking for images for Halloween, bonfire night parties and there are decorations and gifts for Christmas and some last-minute AW images. 

Don’t forget to add keywords – Gifts, Christmas, Xmas, Autumn, Winter, Halloween will all be looked for. It’s National Yoga month so you could add yoga as keyword on any athleisure wear, floor mats, rugs etc
